CeDNN

Celiac Disease Northern Netherlands

Description

Celiac Disease Northern Netherlands, CeDNN, is collecting (bio)materials from celiac disease patients, relatives, partners and IBS patients. The aim is to get a better understanding of how CeD risk genes, the microbiome and environmental factors contribute to disease aetiology. To achieve this, a holistic approach will be applied in which we will study the behaviour of immune cells and the microbiome in CeD patients and compare that to non-patients using “omics” technology (i.e. the full repertoire of all transcripts, cytokine profiles, proteins, metabolites etc.) in the background of the genetic profile of each individual. To generate this information we will profile different immune cells from patients and controls. These datasets will be analysed and integrated using bioinformatics approaches to develop insights into the mechanisms underlying celiac disease. The hope is that the newly gained knowledge will contribute to disease prevention in patients with increased risk for developing celiac disease and to the discovery of novel treatment targets in patients that have developed disease already.
